Islamic finance

Currently following a session on Islamic finance given by Daud Vicary Abdullah from INCEIF; International Center for Education in Islamic Finance. Understanding what, how and where in Islamic Finance including Sharia’ in finance.

The reason I am following this session is that microStart also gives ‘halal microcredit or shariah conform microcredits. We received a fatwa for our microloans via Embassy of Egypt in Paris. However, there is so much more about Islamic finance than receiving a fatwa. Firstly, one has to understand the real economy meaning real jobs not virtual financial turnarounds. Secondly, Islam needs to be understood. Thirdly, the idea of risk sharing has to be comprehended and the mindset has to change.

A small note he mentioned which is food for thought trying to understand Islamic finance is about the Islamist index.

The Islamist Index is an analyses of all countries in the world to check how Islamic they are. The most Islamic country was New Zeeland. The first Islamic country on the list was Maleysia taking the 34th spot while Saoudi Arabia came 120th. Israel even came before Malaysia.

More to learn….

Why I fight against injustice ? #notanasshole

People ask me why I fight for things that I have nothing to do with me ? Well the answer is simple just as the picture. I am not an asshole and I can’t handle injustice.

Poverty? I didn’t grow up poor yet I fight for those that can’t fight for themselves. I have seen poverty on different continents and it’s an ugly thing. No one deserves poverty and no one is or was meant to be poor. Do I know people in poverty yes! & I fight for them. Those in poverty I don’t know I am advocating and through my job in Microfinance I try to the best I can from the position I am

Slavery? Am I a descendant of slaves? Am I African American? Am I a Native American ? No. Were my ancestors enslaved ? No. Yet I stand by those who want justice for slavery. I stand by those that would like to speak, openly and truthfully about slavery. I stand by those who have been discriminated by slavery. I want everyone to be treated equal.

Racism/ discrimination? Do I get discriminated a lot? Not really. Do I have to deal with a lot of racism ? Not really. Why do I fight for this then? Because it’s wrong! No one should be discriminated and no one should have one grain of racism in them. Do I know a lot of people dealing with severe racism and discrimination every day? Countless! How can we turn away from this and not speak up? Not me I will make you face it.

Homosexuality? Am I gay ? No - why do I care? We are all humans no? Why care about someone’s preference? I stand by them.

Religion? We all share the same God and gods. I stand by all religion. Do I believe in freedom of religion? Yes! I stand by my Muslim brother, Christian sister, Atheist grandfather, Hindu family, Jewish relative…

Climate? Yes I will fight against pollution and climate change.

Colonisation? Did I live under colonisation no? Do I know people that lived under this rule? Yes! Do I know colonisers ? Yes. Do I understand the consequences of colonisation and do I openly discuss them and fight for those oppressed.

Animal slaughter? By now you can fill in the blanks…

My list is endless! My point ?? Face the truth and fight injustice. Learn to understand each other make peace and never discriminate!

Don’t be an ass; all evil comes from that.

Muslim Holiday (nationally)

Today was a Muslim holiday and national holiday. I thought I would get the day off. Boy was I wrong, Numerien had us all early at work. I got a big job the do. Well I can’t complain for having to work today as I learned so many new things.

This morning Gisenyi looked as if it was a Muslim town only. Hundreds of Muslims were on their way to the mosque at 7:30 in the morning. I didn’t know there were so many Muslims in Rwanda. I need to check the religious statistics urgently because Numerien is Catholic and Jean de Dieu the bookkeeper Protestant and now I see many Muslims. I wasn’t aware of this. I thought this was a predominately Catholic country. I might be wrong. I should have known this as I hear the mosque prayers every day at 4 AM. Jean de Dieu told me that Muslims here are very rich. I asked him why he thinks that ? He said because they own all the for exchange agencies. Aha… I guess dealing with money makes your rich. I need to go check their commissions to find out this statement is true.
